     Compression Molding, Plastic Pressure for short. The plastic processing(also rubber processing) mehtods that plastic or rubber is formed in the closed cavity with heated and pressurized molding process. Generally, powder, granular, mission granular, flake, or even the blank material being made first to be similar with the shape of  the products, are put into the heating mold cavity, and then closed  the mold and pressure, to molding and  solidifying or vulcanizating, finally get products after a product release (see figure).This way is particularly applicable to the forming of various thermosetting plastics (see thermosetting resins). Disadvantage: long production cycle, low efficiency, bad dimensional accuracy.

      Major equipments:  mold and press. The function of the press is pressing on the plastic through the mold. In rubber processing, the press referred to as flat-panel vulcanizer. The main parameters of the press including nominal tonnage, plate size, work schedule and plunger diameter, which decide the size, height or thickness of molded products, as well as the maximum pressure.According to their structural characteristics,mold can be divided into the overflow-style, non-overflow-style and semi-overflow-style, the half-overflow-style is used widely.

      Process:  feed, close mold, exhaust, curing, mold release, mold clean-up and so on. If product inserts need to be enclosed in the molding process, the inserts should be placed before feeding. The main control process conditions are pressure, mold temperature and molding time. In addition, there is a special form of molding, that is compact plastic powder first, then remove the material blanks from the mold and put on the furnace heated to the melting point so that plastic powder could melt into entirety, finally get product or semi-finished product after cooling down. This mothed is called sintering, mainly be used in the molding of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
